Resurrecting deceased loved ones using AI chatbots trained on their texts and emails could have negative effects on mental health, leading to technology dependence and potentially spawning a new religion. Researchers caution against the idea, as AI technology becomes more advanced and convincing. Jed Brubaker at the University of Colorado Boulder and Meredith Morris at Google DeepMind suggest that creating AI ‘ghosts’ of deceased individuals could have unforeseen consequences. The concept raises ethical and psychological concerns about the impact of interacting with AI replicas of deceased loved ones, urging caution in pursuing this technology. 

AI Solving Fusion’s Problem

Researchers at Princeton have developed an artificial intelligence model that has shown promising results in predicting and avoiding tearing instabilities in plasma, a major hurdle in achieving fusion for clean energy. By training the AI on data from past experiments, the team was able to anticipate and prevent instabilities up to 300 milliseconds in advance. While this is a significant step forward, there are still many challenges to overcome before fusion can fully be harnessed as an energy source. The researchers hope to develop further the AI model to address different scenarios and eventually create a more universal solution. The study is published in the journal Nature.

Google DeepMind’s AI collaborated with Quantinuum to reduce T gates in quantum computers, a resource-intensive process. They developed Alpha-Tensor Quantum, an AI model that optimizes T-count using deep reinforcement learning. This model outperforms existing systems and human-designed solutions, saving “hundreds of hours” of research time. The AI’s efficiency opens up possibilities for applications in quantum chemistry. Future research may focus on improving Alpha-Tensor Quantum’s neural network architecture. This breakthrough showcases the potential of combining AI and quantum computing.

ZenRobotics has launched the fourth generation of waste-sorting robots, ZenRobotics 4.0, which can identify and separate different types of waste quickly and accurately using AI. The Heavy Picker 4.0 handles bulky materials like wood and metal, while the Fast Picker 4.0 sorts lightweight materials like paper and plastic. These robots can recognize over 500 waste categories, improve efficiency by 60%-100%, and are customizable for different waste streams. The robots help reduce carbon footprints, increase recycling revenue, and meet recycling targets. While robots may replace manual sorting jobs, they offer a more environmentally friendly and economically viable solution to waste management.
